Commuters Experiencing Delays On Multiple MBTA Lines
BOSTON (CBS/AP) – Commuters are experiencing widespread delays on MBTA lines Friday morning.
Power was shut off for several minutes on the Red Line just after 7:30 a.m. at the request of the Boston Fire Department, the MBTA said.
Trains were stopped during the brief outage, though services were back running by about 7:45 a.m.
The Boston Fire Department briefly cut power to the Red Line to deal with a trash fire near South Station, affecting all trains.
Shuttle buses had been replacing some Red Line rains to allow for snow removal and track maintenance in anticipation of more snow this weekend.
Trains were also canceled and delayed because of mechanical problems and switch issues.
On the Green Line, service has been suspended between Brigham Circle and Heath Street.
Riders are asked to use the Route 39 bus for service between those stations.
The Orange Line also is experiencing significant delays on Friday morning as a result of a disabled train, the MBTA said.
Commuters are encouraged to ride the Haverhill Line Commuter Rail at Malden for inbound service to Boston. In addition, the MBTA said riders can use the Green Line at Haymarket and North Station.
The MBTA says all bus routes are experienced weather-related delays.
Temperatures in the Boston area are in the single digits and the wind chill is making it feel below zero.
