Commercial Building Collapses In Easton

EASTON (CBS) - Nearly fifty people working at a huge building in Easton are safe after the roof and walls collapsed today.

"For the past 3 days, guys have been on the roof shoveling," said Liz Pardo. "But this morning, we heard a rumbling, and got everyone out of the warehouse."

Moments later, the roof at Sunco, Inc. came crashing in, and it had a domino effect throughout the massive
building.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports.

Around the corner, at Triton Technologies, it looked like a bomb had gone off. Not only had the roof collapsed, but so too the walls.

"You could hear it rumbling," said Mike McGuire, "it sounded like someone violently shaking sheet metal."

And once the building came down, the danger wasn't over.

A natural gas line into the building was sheared off, and the main cut-off valve was somewhere under five feet of snow.

"We called in some of the DPW guys with heavy equipment, and moved the snow until we found the valve," said Fire Chief Tom Stone. "We didn't want anything more, like an explosion."
