Colvin With Toucher & Rich: Is Talent The Issue With Secondary?
The Patriots scored 16 unanswered points against the Seahawks and held a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter. Seattle then fired back in the fourth finding the end zone twice and went on to win 24-23.
Former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin joined 98.5 the Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the loss, the Patriots secondary and the intentional grounding play.
The guys discussed the last touchdown to Sidney Rice that gave the Seahawks the lead and eventual win. If you're the safety on that play how are you letting anything get behind you there?
"I have no idea and it's starting to become very, very frustrating as a fan now."
The guys talked about what the safety should be doing in a Cover 2 scheme.
"In Cover 2 his opportunity for him is to come up and break on the ball instead of having to break on a throw that's already in the air, that's what happened. He broke on a route instead of breaking on the ball and if you're a safety in Cover 2 you should be able to see the entire field."
Is the talent there in the secondary? At what point do you start to question the talent?
"I think they have talent I don't think talent is an issue."
The guys also discussed the intentional grounding call on the Patriots before the half which forced a 10-second runoff that robbed them of a chance to kick a field goal. Should they have just went ahead and kicked the field goal?
