The Patriots went into the fourth quarter up by 17 points over the Broncos, but Peyton Manning almost led his team back cutting the lead to just 10. Luckily the Pats were able to hold on and win 31-21 to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Former Patriots linebacker joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the win over the Broncos, Wes Welker's comments toward Bill Belichick after the game, Julian Edelman and the Patriots secondary.
Wes Welker had 13 receptions for 104 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's game. In Week 1 Welker recorded just three catches against the Titans. The wide receiver joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Michael Felger on the CSNNE Patriots Postgame show and was asked about the big number of receptions and he took a fun jab at coach Belichick.
"Yeah it's kind of nice to stick it in Bill's face once in a while. So this is definitely a good one," Welker said with a smile.
What did Colvin think of the comments, will the coach take issue with the joke?
"I don't think it would be an issue that would ever come out or be on the surface that would create a problem for the media to take and run with it," said Colvin. "I think obviously there was something or there is something there."
Colvin went on to say that he believes that Welker will be gone after this season.
When Julian Edelman was healthy, he was getting more touches than Welker -- or the two were splitting time evenly. Once Edelman returns will they be able to coexist, or will it once again be more of one and less of the other?
"Well, I think similar players, they both play similar positions or maybe the same position. I don't know if they can coexist unless you're running a lot of four receiver sets with only one tight end and that being the running back in place of him," said Colvin. "But they're so versatile and in today's league those slot receivers really take the place of a third down running back."
The Patriots secondary is still struggling a little. What grade did Colvin give them for Sunday's performance?
