Colvin On Toucher & Rich: Could Texans Upset Patriots Like Jets Did In 2010?
The Houston Texans beat the the Cincinnati Bengals 19-13 on Saturday, and will visit the New England Patriots on Sunday in the Divisional Round for a chance to move on to the AFC Championship game.
The Patriots hosted the Texans back in Week 14 of the regular season on Monday Night Football and blew Houston's doors off 42-14.
Former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Monday about what the Pats could get from the Texans come Sunday afternoon.
Back in 2010 the Patriots beat the Jets 45-3 on Monday Night Football in Week 13. The two teams ended up meeting again in the Divisional Round of the playoffs and the Jets upset the Pats 28-21. Is there any shot the Texans pull out an upset similar to what the Jets did back in 2010?
"The Patriots should be able to handle it and come out with the victory," said Colvin.
Last time the two teams squared off, the Pats were without Rob Gronkowski and the Texans were without outside linebacker Brooks Reed and starting tight end Garrett Graham. How important are Reed and Graham to this Houston team, and what kind of difference will they have this time around?
"Tight ends are involved in those bootlegs where (Matt) Schaub rolls back to the weak side, and if his first read -- which is usually Andre Johnson -- is not open then he dumps it to that tight end in the flat," explained Colvin.
Texans running back Arian Foster had some thoughts on facing the Patriots again, saying "we owe them one." Do people put too much stock in revenge as a motivator?
"It works to the point until you get up to game time, and maybe the first play, and then if you get hit in the mouth or all the stuff you've been doing all week long doesn't pan out the way you wanted it to, then it doesn't really matter if you owed them one or not," said Colvin. "You're still going to get beat."
Plus, Colvin discusses Redskins' Robert Griffin III leaving the Washington's playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks with another knee injury.
