Colvin On Toucher & Rich: Belichick Is The Best Coach In Football, Hands Down
BOSTON (CBS) - The Denver Broncos lost to the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night, giving the New England Patriots a clear path to the top seed in the AFC.
Former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Friday, and said with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, the Patriots always have a shot at that top seed.
"I think it's possible. If you look at (Peyton) Manning (and the Broncos), they're not unbeatable," said Colvin -- calling from his UPS Store in Indianapolis rather than his hot tub. "Early in the season they had no health issues, but now Wes Welker's concussion issue is coming up. Peyton is ailing and mad that people say he can't play in the cold and their defense is terrible. (The Patriots) have a shot, they definitely have a shot.
"Defense is your Achilles heel, literally, with Vince (Wilfork) going down this year. But they've done it before with a weak defense or young defense, and that's not to knock the guys out there now, but they're not performing at a high, high level."

The Patriots can still clinch that top seed despite injuries to key players like Wilfork and Jerod Mayo. Colvin says Belichick always finds a way to win no matter what the situation, and should be the favorite for Coach of the Year.
"Well, I'm biased because I was coached by the guy, but Bill is the best coach in football, hands down," said Colvin. "With what he works with each and every year, whether it's super star athletes or Hall of Fame athletes, free agents, rookies, seventh round picks or guys coming off injury, every year he gets it done.
"I think (Seattle's) Pete (Carroll) will get the nod because nobody likes Bill," said Colvin. "But in my opinion you do have to give Bill more credit than most. Its not just one year, it's every single year, every single situation."
"Fans have to be very, very happy with what they see," said Colvin. "The era of football that we're going through is going to be hard to match what we're looking at right now."
