Colvin On Toucher & Rich: Are The Pats The Best Team In The NFL?
The Patriots destroyed the Jets on Thanksgiving 49-19. After an uneventful first quarter where neither team put up any points, the Pats racked up 35 in the second while the Jets only managed three.
Former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the Jets, Rex Ryan and the second half of the NFL season.
The guys started off discussing the self-destructive play of the Jets in Thursday's loss. The Patriots scored on offense, defense and special teams, and scored the most points since against New York since the Jets gave up 52 to Miami in the 1995 season opener. What's going on with the Jets?
"I'm not for sure what's going on in New York," said Colvin. "The Giants obviously got their act together. But the Jets, being without their number one receiver, number one corner on defense, and your head coach can't come up with anymore lines for what's going on now. It looks like the ball has unraveled for them and they're on a steady decline."
A New York newspaper poll revealed that many feel Rex Ryan is to blame for the failures of this Jets team. As a player, when your team is going through loses like the Jets, does it make it harder to buy into the coach's system?
"Everyone just needs to do their job, and if they're not doing their job good enough then do it a little bit better," said Colvin. "Then you'll see or figure out whether or not as a general manager or an owner of the team if this is the way that you need to continue to go when it comes to the head coaching position."
Plus, the guys discuss how the Patriots looked in the first half of the season. At one point, the Patriots were sitting at 3-3. Now they stand atop the AFC East at 8-3, three games up on everyone else.
Where do the Patriots rank among the NFL's best?
"I think they have to be considered as at least top four or five," said Colvin. "When it's all said and done, you get one opportunity to make a play, win a game, they've done it consistently over the last couple weeks."
