Colorado College Whips Boston College 8-4
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- No doubt, Jaden Schwartz impressed his future employers.
The freshman had two goals and two assists, helping Colorado College whip top seed Boston College 8-4 in the semifinals of the NCAA West Regional on Friday. The St. Louis Blues drafted the 18-year-old Schwartz in the first round in 2010.
"Playing in front of his future fans, he's got to be happy for that," said Schwartz's older brother and linemate Rylan Schwartz. "I think he's going to be playing his best hockey of the year here."
Rylan Schwartz added a goal and two assists for Colorado College (23-18-3), which ended Boston College's eight-game winning streak and will play Michigan in the final Saturday night with a Frozen Four berth at stake.
"We're ready to take on anyone, pretty much," Rylan Schwartz said.
Boston College goalie John Muse, who had been 8-0 with a 1.95 goals-against average in NCAA tournament play and starred on a pair of title teams last year and 2008, was pulled after two periods with the Eagles (30-8-1) trailing 7-2. Cam Atkinson and Barry Almeida scored in the third to narrow the gap to three for the losers, who have 11 NHL draft picks and had been seeded third overall in the tournament.
"We haven't had many losses in big games," Muse said. "It's a different experience. It's tough, it's tough walking away from the guys on this team."
The third member of the Schwartz line, Stephen Schultz, had a goal and two assists. An empty-net goal in the final seconds put Colorado College one off its season high for scoring. CC has won four of five.
"We just got on a little bit of a roll," coach Scott Owens said.
Boston College surrendered a season high for goals, two of them shorthanded, against an opponent that finished sixth in the WCHA and was the fourth seed in the four-team regional.
"They were just better than us in a lot of facets," coach Jerry York said. "They didn't surprise us. The first period they executed incredibly well."
Schwartz has 17 goals and 29 assists in 29 games in a season shortened by a broken ankle while playing for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships. He was not with Colorado College for a loss to Michigan in late December.
Boston College jumped on top at the 19-second mark on Hayes' goal. Colorado College answered with four straight goals in the first period, one each from the Schwartz brothers in a span of 15 seconds, and outscored the Eagles 3-1 in the second period to put the game away.
