Colleges Collaborate To Bring Campus To Brockton
BROCKTON (CBS) – Downtown Brockton is getting the first of its kind higher education campus.
Three Massachusetts colleges -- Massasoit Community College, Bridgewater State University, and University of Massachusetts Boston – have teamed up to offer classes at 226 Main St., where the satellite building will be located.
The first phase of the project, called "Downtown Brockton Higher Education Collaborative" was announced Monday at Brockton City Hall. More than $21 million in state funds have been allocated for the project.
The state's Secretary of Education Matthew Malone says this will make a big difference for the community.
"Downtown is going to be revitalized. It's going to be revitalized by the investments we're making and the investments we will make in downtown," Malone said.
The campus will serve about 1000 students.
