College cop from MA sentenced on drug conviction
A college police officer from Massachusetts has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on charges he worked with an Atlanta drug dealer to sell ecstasy and methamphetamine.
Richard Trong Ong was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Atlanta on Friday.
The 37-year-old Suffolk University officer began conspiring with Atlanta resident Chiem Mach, who is a Canadian citizen, in 2005. Mach was hoping to expand his drug operation into the greater Boston area.
Federal agents found Ong by tapping Mach's cell phone.
Ong was arrested in August 2005 at his home in Quincy just outside Boston. He is the last of the 24 defendants sentenced in connection with the investigation.
Mach was arrested in Atlanta but died while in federal custody awaiting trial. Ong's co-conspirators are serving a combined 121 years in federal prison.
