Coldest Air Thus Far

Winter is approximately 2 weeks deep, and we are now in the midst of a 2-day cold spell.

Check: Current Conditions | Weather Map Center | Interactive Radar

This is the coldest chunk of air to invade southern New England this fall-winter so far.

Today:

High temps are only going to be be in the middle and upper 20s.  Skies will be bright, but ocean-effect flurries and light snow showers are also possible for the Cape and Islands late this evening and early tonight.

Wednesday:

It will be even colder along with subzero wind chills tomorrow morning.  Early morning lows will dip in the single digits for many suburbs.  Then, temperatures will only top off in the middle 20s once again.  There may be a few late-day flurries.

Thursday and Friday:

The jet stream maintains a more zonal pattern as opposed to an amplified flow. Due to this pattern, there will be a  few weak distrubances that could kick-off a few flurries both days. A shortwave will be the culprit on Thursday while a warm frontal boundary would be the culprit on Friday. The best chances of seeing a few snowflakes will be north and west of 495.  High temperatures will start to moderate as they head back to the middle 30s.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

This weekend:

It looks relatively quiet. Saturday will be much warmer in the middle to upper 40s with a cloud/sun mix. However, Sunday is showing signs of slightly cooler high temps in the lower 40s.

The GFSx continues to show a low passing far enough to our east that we'd squeeze out a mainly dry day with an abundance of clouds.

However, the newest EURO is showing a different outcome with the potential of snow developing midday Sunday through Sunday night.

Although I am not completely disregarding this solution, I am not completely buying into the EURO either since it has just made this change in this latest model run. I will look very closely at the newest update that shows up this afternoon.

Melissa :)
