Coakley To Announce Bid For Governor
BOSTON (CBS) --- Attorney General Martha Coakley will announce a run for governor on Monday.
Coakley plans to throw her hat into the ring with an announcement in her home town of Medford on Monday followed by an 18-city barnstorming tour for the next three days, her aide said.
Coakley lost to Scott Brown in the 2010 US Senate race but polls show she is now one of the most popular political figures in the state.
The democratic primary field includes one other woman and four men, including the candidate.
State Treasurer Steve Grossman, is considered her toughest rival.
Last month, Juliette Kayyem, a former Boston Globe columnist who has served as a state and federal homeland security official, announced she would run.
So far, the democratic field includes Don Berwick, who ran Medicaid and Medicare in the Obama administration; Joseph Avellone, a biotech executive; and potentially state Senator Dan Wolf of Harwich, the founder of Cape Air, who suspended his campaign pending his appeal of a State Ethics Commission opinion over Cape Air's relationship with Logan Airport.
Republican Charlie Baker recently announced his candidacy.
