City Council Approves East Boston-Only Vote On Suffolk Downs Casino
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston City Council voted Wednesday to schedule an East Boston-only vote on the Suffolk Downs casino host agreement on November 5.
The council voted 10-to-3 for the Eastie-only vote. Councilors Matt O'Malley, Charles Yancey and Tito Jackson favored a citywide vote.

O'Malley said he tried to convince his colleagues about the merits of a citywide vote.
"This is something that will affect businesses, will affect public safety, public health, taxpayer money from all of us – all taxpayers in Boston – will go to it. There are some benefits clearly and I believe that's why we all should have had a say in the matter," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
Chip Tuttle of Suffolk Downs said the preliminary election results in the Mayor's race show the Eastie-only vote is supported by city residents.
"Candidates that took anti-casino positions didn't seem to do very well at all," Tuttle told WBZ.
Revere must now schedule an election on a host agreement for the parcel of Suffolk Downs property that spills into that city.
