Chung On Toucher & Rich: Peyton The Same, 'A Damn Good Player'
BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots' safety Patrick Chung joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich for his weekly call on Tuesday morning, as the Patriots move on from their win over the Bills and focus on the Denver Broncos.
Peyton Manning is now leading the charge in Denver, who are 2-2 after a convincing 37-6 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Manning was 30-for-38 for 338 yards with three touchdowns in the win, and Chung sees the same old Peyton Manning under center for the Broncos.
"I see the same Peyton Manning that everyone else sees, a damn good player," said Chung. "He's making plays and he's making that team roll. I don't see anything different. He didn't skip a beat, didn't slip, didn't trip. He's full steam ahead; he's still good."
Manning, like Tom Brady, loves to change plays at the line of scrimmage -- or so we think. How much of Manning's "audibles" is actually changing the play, and how much of it is to get the defense to over-think things.
"We'll watch film, but I don't think he's doing anything just to do it. He's making calls, seeing things that may give them away and making checks," said Chung. "We don't know what those calls mean, we just see some hand movements and hopefully we're in the right defense. Regardless of what it is, it's going to play out and we're going to do the best we can."
Chung's own quarterback was fairly emotional following his rushing touchdown against the Bills on Sunday, with Brady mouthing a phrase that we can't publish (but feel free to check for yourselves). What did Chung think about his QB's emotions on the sidelines?
"I'm hearing about it right now. That's awesome," he said. "He's a passionate player baby, I would have probably said the same thing. "
"He wants to win," Chung said of Brady. "He wants to go down as a legend. Money doesn't make you a legend. You have to keep playing and get guys on the right track; make big plays when they need to be made. That's what he's been doing. He's great."
