Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo On Felger & Mazz
BOSTON (CBS) - Wednesday's "New Yorker Of The Day" on Felger & Mazz was none other than satellite radio's Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, who stopped by to share his thoughts on a number of topics.
Fresh off their spygate chat with Kurt Warner, Felger & Mazz asked Russo for his take on the controversy.
"Does it submerge the Patriots' championships? No, it does not. They're still an all-time great organization and (Tom Brady) is a great quarterback and (Bill Belichick) is one of all-time great coaches," said Russo, who was also critical that analysts Bill Cowher and Chris Berman didn't ask Belichick about the scandal during recent 1-on-1 interviews.
"You can couch it quietly and be nice about it, but to me, if you're a reporter, it has to be asked," he said.
Cowher had high praise for Belichick during the interview, saying he will go down as the greatest coach of all-time. Russo says Belichick is up there, but he's not at Vince Lombardi's level.
"He is not Lombardi, like Cowher was making him out to be," said Russo. "He got burned twice by (Tom) Coughlin, and Lombardi never got burned by anyone."
As for Sunday's game, Russo said a Denver win would put Peyton Manning up with the all-time great quarterbacks of the game.
"I've never been a huge Manning guy… but if he wins this game you can't say anything," he said. "Cold weather, two championships with two teams, beating Belichick and Brady one week, and then Seattle and the cold two weeks later."
"We all know Manning is a great player and a Hall of Fame player, but to be on that top shelf where Brady sits, where Unitas sits, where Graham and Montana sit, he has to win the game on Sunday," he said. "I don't know if he will, but he has to at least play well."
