Chris Johnson Signs Second 10-Day Contract With Celtics

BOSTON (CBS) -  After a solid 10 days with the Boston Celtics, Chris Johnson has earned himself another 10-day contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The 23-year-old guard/forward played in four games for Boston during his first contract, averaging 10 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 26.6 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 12 points in Sunday's loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Johnson has impressed head coach Brad Stevens with his energy and hustle on both ends of the floor. He's shot an impressive 48-percent from the floor, and gets his 6-6 frame into passing lanes that have resulted in six steals over his four games. Johnson tallied four steals on January 22 against the Washington Wizards in just his second game with the Celtics.

"He plays with as high of a motor as anyone we have," Stevens said of Johnson following Tuesday's morning shootaround in New York. "What I mean by that is he's always running to the right spots, he's always making cuts. He wants to play well and perform well, and he doesn't do things he can't do. That's unique in this situation because you're trying to make an impression."

"He's clearly a guy that can play in this league, and be effective in this league," added Stevens.

With Avery Bradley still recovering from an ankle injury, Johnson should still get plenty of playing time on Boston's second unit. If he keeps up his solid play, his next contract could be for the rest of the season.
