Chilly & Quiet

It's a chilly and quiet start to your work week.

Check: Current Conditions | Weather Map Center | Interactive Radar

Mostly sunny skies along with a light south breeze will carry us through the day.

Highs will be in the middle to upper 30s.  Some backyards along the Cape/Islands will touch upon 40F.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

Clouds will increase for the entire viewing are as a cold front has its eyes on New England and a system skirts our southern viewing area as it travels east.

This system may produce a few drops/flakes for southeastern Massachusetts later tonight.  Tuesday will begin cloudier, but it will end with more sunshine. High temperatures will be milder in the lower to middle 40s.

Wednesday will be a a calm day before a moisture-laden system approaches from our south. Skies will be partly cloudy with highs in the middle 40s.  There may be a few flurries north as a weak shortwave sweeps across the region.

The more potent system coming up from the south will begin to affect us late Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

As a warm front slowly travels northward, the question remains as to how far north it will make it.

This will be a major player in terms of determining precipitation type as well as the timing of the event.

As it stands, we can expect to see wet snow/mix north and west of the city on Thursday morning.

The majority of the area will continue with moderate to heavy pockets of rain, mainly through the afternoon.

We do need to keep a watchful eye on the higher elevations of northern New England, which is the geographic location looking at the best chance of seeing accumulating snow.

Ski country would love some fresh, 'natural' snow!

Areas between 495 and central New Hampshire/southern Vermont be be a tough call.

I expect at least some wet snow for the onset of precipitation.

However, precipitation type will be highly dependent upon how far north the warm front travels.   Nowcasting will be a big part of this system for those 'in-between' areas.

Friday will be partly sunny with a few flurries/mix during the afternoon with an upper level trough in place.

The weekend looks pretty uneventful along with cooler high temps in the 30s.

Melissa :)
