Children's Museum Celebrates 100th Birthday With 900-Pound Cake
BOSTON (CBS) --- There are cakes and then there are cakes! And the king sized one we saw being assembled and decorated today is all about celebrating the 100th birthday of the Boston Children's Museum. And you can have a taste.
There's the iconic milk bottle standing out front and the umbrellas near the door with a rainbow of sugary people. "We're making a large replica of the Children's Museum," says George Montilio of Montilio's bakery. "It's going to be 16 feet long. It's going to be 7 feet wide. It weighs about 1300 pounds of cake and icing," he adds.

And it's made up of 200 sheet cakes. "It's going to serve over 3,000 people," says Montilio.
Using a photo of the Museum as a guide, it's all coming alive at Montilio's Bakery in Brockton. "Anything like this that serves thousands of people, it's a big project," says George Montilio.
The cake will be part of the big celebration kicking off on Friday. "It's nothing but fun to make this cake," says the baker.
There's still a lot of work to be done on the cake, but it will be ready to enjoy at the museum Friday afternoon, kicking off a weekend of fun.
