Children's Hospital Doctor Honored By President Obama
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — An internationally known Boston Children's Hospital doctor was among the recipients of the Presidential Citizens Medal honored in Washington Friday.
Dr. T. Berry Brazelton was presented with the medal at the White House by President Barack Obama.
The 95-year-old pediatrician and teacher is known for developing a widely used assessment technique to evaluate physical and neurological responses in newborn babies.
In 1996, he founded the Brazelton Touchpoints Center at Boston Children's Hospital, where he still is involved in promoting family-centered care for children in hospitals and early education settings worldwide.
Brazelton has been clinical professor of pediatrics emeritus at Harvard Medical School since 1988.
The citizens medal was established in 1969 to recognize Americans who have performed exemplary service.
