Chiarelli on Toucher & Rich: Peverley Could Return This Week
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins weren't short on any goal-scoring on Monday night against the Maple Leafs, but they're still eager for the return of winger Rich Peverley.
And that return could be coming sooner rather than later.
Peverley skated with the team on Monday morning, and general manager Peter Chiarelli said on Toucher & Rich on Tuesday that Peverley could start playing by the end of the upcoming three-game West Coast trip.
"He's had a few good days skating. Hes close to returning," Chiarelli told Fred Toucher and Joe Haggerty, filling in for Rich. "I saw him one of the days, [and] he had an hour of strong skating. He's a little ahead of schedule. We could see him back within the week. Maybe a little longer.
"I guess maybe there is a chance towards the end," Chiarelli said when asked specifically if Peverley could be ready by the weekend. "He needs to face some contact in practice. It's easier to skate in a straight line versus bumping laterally, and that's what puts the pressure on the knee."
On the less fortunate injury front, Chiarelli said there's still been no sign of improvement from Nathan Horton, who continues to suffer from concussion symptoms.
Chiarelli also discussed the extension of Shawn Thornton, while adding that he won't be signing any more players for the rest of the season.
Lastly, Chiarelli was asked if he'd like to shave Michael Felger's head at Cuts For A Cause, and his answer was classic.
"I don't know what he looks like," the B's GM said," so I can't comment on that."
