Chiarelli: Bruins 'Not Counting On' Seidenberg Return During Playoffs
BOSTON (CBS) -- If Boston Bruins fans were dreaming that defenseman Dennis Seidenberg could possibly return to the ice during a deep postseason run, GM Peter Chiarelli just threw a bucket of water on them to snap out of that fantasy.
Seidenberg continues to skate as he recovers from a torn ACL and MCL he suffered back in December and subsequent surgery, but Chiarelli told reporters on Monday they'll be very cautious with the blue-liner and he doubts he'll make a return this postseason.
"We're not counting on Dennis to be back," Chiarelli said Monday at his pre-playoff press conference. "We're going to be very cautious with his injury. He has been skating, but that's all I can say on it. It really hasn't changed."
Of course Seidenberg has been a key part to the dominating postseason defense the Bruins have played the last three years, lining up besides captain Zdeno Chara to form a defensive duo that opposing forwards likely lose some sleep over.
Chiarelli also said there is some uncertainty around the availability of defenseman Adam McQuaid, who has been out with a quadriceps injury since mid-January.
"We want to be careful on it," Chiarelli said of McQuaid, who had a pair of setbacks following the Olympic break. "It's not a major injury; it's a soft-tissue injury. We've been doing OK with the D we have, so we're going to be cautious with him."
