Revolution Forward Charlie Davies Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
FOXBORO (CBS) – New England Revolution forward Charlie Davies, a New Hampshire native, announced through the team Saturday that he is in remission after receiving cancer treatment.
The Revolution shared a statement saying that Davies was diagnosed in the spring with liposarcoma, a rare cancer of the connective tissues.
Davies, a Manchester native, received treatment and is now in remission.
The former Olympian and member of the United States Men's National Team scored 10 goals in 33 games with the Revolution in 2015 but has played in just eight games so far during the 2016 campaign.
"It was important for Charlie to concentrate on his family and treatment during the past few weeks and the club honored his wish for privacy," the Revolution said in a statement. "The New England Revolution will continue to support him through full recovery and are looking forward to seeing him back out on the pitch."
Davies missed about 18 months of action following a serious car crash in October 2009.
Fans are asked to show support by Davies by tweeting or tagging him on Twitter and using the hashtag #CD9.
