Gov. Charlie Baker Wants Wynn Casino Dispute Resolved Quickly
BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker says the dispute that has led Wynn Resorts to put its $1.7 billion casino project on hold needs to be immediately resolved because there's a lot at stake.
Although the state approved an environmental mitigation plan submitted by the developers of the Wynn Casino in Everett, the city of Somerville is legally challenging the plan.
"I think our goal at this part is to see if we can get both parties together and get this resolved," Baker told WBZ's NightSide with Dan Rea.
The decision to hold, announced Wednesday, cancelled a planned April groundbreaking and other events in response to the latest legal challenge against the development.
Baker said the casino will bring many permanent jobs to the state and called the hold, "a big deal."
"There are a whole series of investments that Wynn has agreed to make in both street infrastructure and also support for public transportation that presume that he actually builds the casino and moves forward," Baker said.
"If he doesn't build it, then those things won't be paid for and won't happen," Baker said.
