Charlie Baker To Run For Mass. Governor Again
SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (AP) — Republican Charles Baker has officially announced that he plans another run for governor of Massachusetts.
Baker, who lost to Democratic incumbent Deval Patrick in 2010, announced his campaign Wednesday in a video emailed to supporters and on social media.
Baker said in his announcement that he wanted "to rise above politics," and make "state government more affordable, accountable and business friendly."
Baker is the former head of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and served eight years in state government as human services secretary and budget chief for former Republican Govs. Paul Cellucci and William Weld.
He touted his roles in financial turnarounds in state government and the private sector.
Baker is the first Republican to jump into the 2014 race. Several Democrats have already declared.
He currently works in venture capital.
