Former Assumption College Student Charged With Threatening Violence
WORCESTER (CBS) - A former Assumption College student from Shrewsbury who became a sort of pen pal to a mass murderer is facing a bomb threat charge for threatening violence on campus.
Kevin Forts first caught the attention of Assumption College officials with a video posted by a Norwegian newspaper. In it, Forts defends the actions of Anders Behring Breivik, the perpetrator of a mass shooting and bombing in Norway that killed 77 people, among them many children.
"I believe that he is a nationalist and a patriot and not the terrorist Neo-Nazi that the media portrays him to be," Forts says. He continues, "I believe that Breivik is a rational man who committed atrocious but necessary actions."
School officials suspended him. Then, in September 2011, authorities at Assumption found notes threatening that violent action would take place on campus that day. Along with the threats, they found copies of Breivak's manifesto.
According to court documents released Tuesday, Forts' fingerprints were on the threats.
The school banned Forts from campus in April.
In Worcester, a city full of colleges, others are glad to see threats taken seriously, especially coming from someone with Forts' views.
"How do you know when it's a real issue when it's a serious thing that maybe they should get psychological help"," said Tim Guman who attends nearby Clark University.
WBZ-TV left messages for Forts and his attorney. Neither returned phone calls.
