Charges Filed Against Driver That Struck, Killed Pedestrian In Chatham
CHATHAM, Mass. (CBS) — A pedestrian was killed and several others were injured Saturday night in a crash on Main Street.
The crash happened at 6:22 p.m. and involved a vehicle that had failed to stop for Harwich police and fled into Chatham, police said.
Police say Benjamin Shealey, 32, of Cambridge and Providence, R.I., was fleeing from police in his 2006 Range Rover when he hit a pedestrian standing on the south side of Route 28.
Shealey continued on and hit a 2008 Volvo that was exiting a parking lot. The four people in the Volvo, including two children, were injured.
On Sunday, police identified the victim in the crash as pedestrian Albert Dellamalva, 62, of Orleans.
Shealey has been charged with failure to stop for police and other motor vehicle violation. Chatham Police say additional criminal charges are expected.
Seven total vehicle were struck and damaged from flying debris.
The four people in the Volvo are being treated for injuries.
