Charges Dismissed Against Local Judge Over Craigslist Crib Sale
NEWTON (CBS) - A Newton District Court judge has dismissed charges against former State Senator Cheryl Jacques.
In May, Jacques, who is now a judge, sold a portable crib on Craigslist to Tracey Christopher. The pregnant Sudbury woman claimed the Pack N' Play was incomplete, and she wanted her money back.
Jacques refused, so Christopher took her to court on charges of larceny by false pretense.
Jacques' attorney, Leonard Kesten, says he tried several times to settle with Christopher but she refused.
"Craigslist is like a yard sale," says Kesten. "The woman came in, spent 15 minutes examined the thing up and down and decided to take it. It's as is."
Although Jacques had maintained the sale of the crib was "as is," she has purchased the missing piece, a vibrating box for the crib and will give it to the Sudbury mom to make the crib whole.
