Celtics/Lakers: It Just Means More
[photogallerylink id=24002 align=right]Bob Neumeier stopped in to talk Celtics/Lakers with Felger and Massarotti today. Is this rivalry the best this sport has to offer?
Felger: "The best this SPORT has to offer. Olympic basketball doesn't do it for me. I'm not a huge NCAA guy. Name it. This is the BEST this sport has to offer. I'm not talking about the NBA Finals, I'm talking about Celtics/Lakers. Because Celtics/Lakers is different. It means more. It's better, it's the best this sport has to offer."
Mazz: "Even if you expand it beyond basketball. Name another rivalry in sports where the franchises are basically equally as successful. There's a 2 title difference between the two. And if the Lakers had beaten the Celtics head to head in 1 of those you'd have 16 and 16. Name another sport where the top 2 are that close. You don't have it. And spread out over that length of time there's really not anything else like it. These 2 teams have won more titles than the rest of the franchises in the league COMBINED."
Bob Neumeier: " I think the Lakers probably have done a better job over the course of 30 years in keeping it consistent. The Celtics have obviously had major dips."
Tony Mazz is right when he says there is nothing like this rivalry between the Celtics and Lakers. Not even the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry compares because the championships are so lopsided. Both teams have a chance to add to their sustained dominance over the NBA in these upcoming weeks but there's just 1 question... Who will it be this time?
