Allen 'Sure I'll Be Sore' After Late Ankle Injury
BOSTON (CBS) - There was a bit of a scare for the Boston Celtics in the closing minute of their 94-85 win over the Clippers Monday night, when guard Ray Allen had to be helped off the court after a fall.
Allen went down, untouched, and limped off the court with the help of team trainer Ed Lacerte. Luckily for Allen and the Celtics, it was nothing serious, and the sharp shooter was able to jog back to the court for the games' closing seconds.
"I think I hit a wet spot or something," Allen said after his 15-point performance against the Clippers. "I slipped and when I slid, my ankle just turned over. I kind of had the wherewithal to fall and take the pressure off of it, but I still felt it and it was a sharp pain. But when I walked to the back and once I got back here, I just kind of started putting pressure on it and it kind of eased up. I feel a little better. I'm sure I'll be sore."
After jogging back to the bench, Allen was on the court for the final seconds of the win. Head coach Doc Rivers was happy to have him back, since he was expecting the worst when he saw the all-time three-point king limping off the court.
"I didn't see what happened, when you turn around and see a guy down -- and I didn't see anyone around him -- the first thing you think is something on his body gave out," Rivers said. "But then I heard that he got pushed and twisted his ankle. It was good to see him back, walk out on the floor, that was nice."
Allen will have a day to rest his ankle, as the Celtics have Tuesday off before taking on the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night.
