Celtics Waive Shavlik Randolph
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Celtics waived center/forward Shavlik Randolph on Thursday, the final day before his $1.1 contract would become guaranteed for the 2013-14 NBA season.
Randolph played 16 games for the Celtics during the 2012-13 season, averaging 4.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game. He played in one playoff game for Boston, pulling down three rebounds in three minutes against the New York Knicks.
Stats: Celtics Current Roster
Randolph impressed in his brief time with the Celtics, but it came down to numbers this season. The C's needed to trim the roster down to 15, and are now committed to roughly $72.5 million for next season.
Report: Olynyk Suffering From Plantar Fasciitis
Boston now has veterans Brandon Bass and Kris Humphries, sophomores Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo, and rookies Kelly Olynyk and Vitor Faverani as options in the frontcourt.
