Celtics Trim Roster, Waive Sweetney, Sampson, Brown
BOSTON (CBS) - With just three days left until their NBA season opener, the Boston Celtics are doing a little holiday trimming of their own.
The Celtics waived forward Jamal Sampson, forward Michael Sweetney and guard Gilbert Brown on Thursday ahead of Sunday's season opener against the Knicks in New York.
Sampson saw the court for just 1:42 during the preseason, recording one rebound.
Brown appeared in two preseason games for the Celtics and averaged 1.0 point and 0.5 rebounds.
Sweetney appeared in the final preseason game and recorded two points, two rebounds and a block.

The releases give Boston 14 players in camp, giving the team some flexibility with an open roster spot.

The C's have elected to keep camp invite Greg Stiemsma, who impressed the Celtics brass during camp and the preseason. Stiemsma scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in 22 minutes of preseason action, netting the game-winning basket in Boston's preseason opener against the Raptors.
