Celtics Summer League: Pistons Hand C's First Loss 93-79
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Celtics fell for the first time in the Orlando Summer League Thursday afternoon as the Detroit Pistons ran away with a 93-79 victory.
Jared Sullinger, who had been solid in the C's previous three summer league tilts, was held to 11 points on 2-for-9 shooting from the floor and seven rebounds. E'Twaun Moore was also just 2-for-9 from the floor, finishing with six points in 17 minutes on the floor.
The Celtics fell behind early and never recovered, giving up 53 points in the first half. There was no stopping Pistons' point guard Brandon Knight, who scored 19 points and dished out 14 assists -- five more than the Celtics had as a team.
Second-round pick Kris Joseph was a bright spot for the Celtics, as he has been during the week, scoring 17 points on 6-for-16 shooting while pulling down 11 rebounds. Last year's first-round pick JaJuan Johnson also scored 17 points while pulling down six rebounds in 33 minutes of action.
Andre Drummond, selected ninth overall by the Pistons out of UConn last month, scored 10 points to go with eight rebounds.
The Celtics and Pistons, both 3-1, are tied for first place in Orlando. The C's close out their week in Florida Friday morning at 10 am against the Orlando Magic before heading to Las Vegas for more Summer League action starting on Monday.
