Rondo On Track For Wednesday Return
BOSTON (CBS) -- Rajon Rondo had screws removed from his left hand on Saturday, but is still on track to play Wednesday night when the Boston Celtics host the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Rondo will meet with Celtics doctors on Monday, but is expected to be back on the floor for Tuesday's practice.
"Every indication is that he should be good to go on Wednesday," Celtics head coach Stevens said following Monday's practice.
Rondo did not travel with the team for Saturday night's win over the Chicago Bulls as he had screws removed from his surgically repaired hand. Boston's point guard originally hurt the hand (his non-shooting hand) on a fall in the shower back on September 25 and underwent surgery the following day.
He was expected to miss some time at the start of the regular season with the injury, but was ready to go for Boston's season opening win over the Brooklyn Nets on October 29. In his five games this season, Rondo is averaging an NBA-best 11.2 assists to go with nine points and eight rebound per game.
Stevens also told reporters that rookie James Young, who has appeared in just one game for Boston during the regular season, returned home Sunday due to an illness is his family. He wasn't sure when Young, the 17th overall pick in June's draft, would rejoin the team.
"We'll just play it by ear with whatever he needs to do with his family," said Stevens.
