Celtics Lose Coin Toss To Jazz, Own 5th-Best Chance At Top Pick
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Celtics are no longer playing games, but they still managed to rack up a loss to the Utah Jazz on Friday.
The Celtics and Jazz both finished the regular season with identical records (25-57), but Boston lost a tie-breaking coin toss with Utah and now own the fifth-best chance at receiving the top pick in June's draft.
The Celtics will now have 103 ping-pong ball combinations out of 1,000 at the draft lottery, giving a 33.4 percent chance at a top-3 selection. All they lost on Friday was one ping-pong ball in May's lottery.
Here are the Celtics' odds of landing each pick:
1st: 10.3 percent
2nd: 11.1 percent
3rd: 12.0 percent
4th: 0 percent
5th: 23.7 percent
6th: 34.2 percent
7th: 8.2 percent
8th: 0.2 percent
Though the Celtics lost some ground atop the draft, they were able to move up one spot in the middle. Boston won the coin flip for their other first-round selection (from the Brooklyn Nets via this summer's Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett trade) and now own the 17th overall pick in June's draft.
The Celtics will find out about their top pick at May 20's NBA draft lottery. The NBA draft will take place on June 26.
