Celtics Legend Bill Russell Cited For Having Gun At Airport
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell was cited this week for trying to get on a plane with a loaded gun.
CBS affiliate KIRO confirmed that Russell was cited after trying to go through a TSA checkpoint Wednesday night at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
Russell had a permit for the gun and was released. His background check was clear, an airport spokesman told KIRO.
Russell's .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was found during a routine screening of carry-on baggage. He was taking a flight to Boston at the time.
On November 1, the long awaited Bill Russell statue will be unveiled on City Hall Plaza. Russell won eleven NBA championships with the Celtics.
