Celtics Isaiah Thomas Attempts To Recruit Kevin Durant Following Thunder Loss
BOSTON (CBS) -- Hopefully Kevin Durant was checking Twitter in the hours following the Oklahoma City Thunder's Game 7 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Durant will be an unrestricted free agent after the NBA Finals. Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas has said he's going to be Boston's biggest recruiter this summer as the franchise attempts to get a superstar to town.
"Danny [Ainge] wants me to be active. Whatever he needs me to do, I'm there," Thomas told Sirius Radio earlier this offseason. "All he says is, 'When I call, answer.' I'm going to be ready."
Thomas' recruiting began late Monday night, when Thomas sent out the following tweet before quickly deleting it:
Someone should probably let Thomas -- and Durant for that matter -- know that the late Reggie Lewis' No. 35 is retired in Boston.
The odds of Durant coming to Boston remain slim; he'll likely re-sign with Oklahoma City for at least a year, setting himself up for an even bigger payday next offseason. But Thomas' full-court press to get a star player to Boston has begun. We'll see if he has the same closing power on the free agent market as he does in the fourth quarter.
