Celtics Hire Darren Erman As Director Of NBA Scouting
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Celtics have added another young and promising mind to their staff, reportedly hiring Darren Erman as director of NBA scouting.
Erman, who spent four seasons in Boston as a coaching assistant under Doc Rivers, was fired by the Golden State earlier this month for "violation of company policy." In Golden State, Erman served as an assistant coach under Mark Jackson, who has had problems with his assistant coaches since becoming a head coach three years ago.
According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, who first reported the hire, Erman's termination from the Warriors "stemmed from a single taped conversation of Warriors coaches who had been working to undermine his game preparation and relationships with players."
But Danny Ainge and the Celtics weren't too concerned with whatever happened with the Warriors, because they wasted no time in bringing Erman back to Boston.
"Darren worked with us for four years and he was one of the hardest working, most competent and intelligent members of our organization," Ainge told Yahoo Sports. "We welcome him back."
During his time with the Celtics from 2007-11, Erman worked closely with top assistants Tom Thibodeau and Lawrence Frank under Rivers, and was heavily involved in scouting and individual development. He will likely do the same, this time alongside assistant head coach Ron Adams under head coach Brad Stevens.
Prior to being hired by the Celtics in 2007, Erman served as an assistant coach at Brandies University in Waltham from 2005-2007.
