Celtics-Heat Game 1 Referee Assignments: Dan Crawford, Ed Malloy, Jason Phillips
BOSTON (CBS) -- With all the eyes of the basketball world focused on Game 1 between the Celtics and Heat on Monday night, it will be the trio of Dan Crawford, Ed Malloy and Jason Phillips in charge of the whistles.
If Malloy's name sounds familiar to Celtics fans, it's because he's the referee who slapped Paul Pierce with a pair of technical fouls last year in Game 1 vs. the Heat in a span of just 59 seconds.
The first technical foul came when Pierce came face-to-face (literally) with James Jones after the latter clobbered the former with a hard foul.
The second technical came when Pierce was setting a screen for Ray Allen. Dwyane Wade drove his shoulder into Pierce's chest in an attempt to break through the screen, and despite the fact that Pierce backed away from a confrontation, Malloy quickly called a personal foul on Wade and a technical foul on both Wade and Pierce. The second technical foul called on Pierce meant he was ejected from the game.
The Celtics were trailing by double digits at the time of both technicals, and they'd go on to lose that game 99-90.
