Celtics Guard Marcus Smart Out 2-3 Weeks With Ankle Sprain, Bone Bruising
BOSTON (CBS) – The results of an MRI on Celtics guard Marcus Smart's ankle confirmed that the rookie will miss several weeks following an ankle sprain suffered on Friday night.
Smart injured his left ankle with 11:07 remaining in the fourth quarter against Indiana when he drove the lane, rolled his ankle and went to the floor writhing in pain.
The rookie remained on the floor for several minutes until he was loaded onto a stretcher and brought off the court.
On Saturday the team said Smart underwent an MRI Friday night at New England Baptist Hospital. The results showed a left ankle sprain with bone bruising, and the team said he will miss the next two to three weeks.
In addition, the Celtics said guard Rajon Rondo underwent a successful procedure to remove screws from his left hand, which he had surgery on in the preseason.
Rondo will miss Saturday's game in Chicago, but will likely be available on Wednesday versus Oklahoma City, the team said.
