Stevens: Coach Of The Month Award Should Be 'Team Of The Month'

BOSTON (CBS) --  Brad Stevens was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month on Tuesday after the Celtics went 9-3 in February, but the coach thinks the award should really honor teams rather than the individual.

"The one award that is given in the NBA directly correlated to winning and losing is Coach of the Month, so that is completely a team thing. It should be called 'Team of the Month,'" Stevens told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand on Wednesday. "We still have a lot of room for improvement and can get better. We've won a lot of games by a small margin, so we have to get a lot better if we want to continue to grow."

Stevens urged that Boston's schedule gets very tough to close out the season, so the Celtics have to focus on the future rather than look back at a successful month.

"The last 21 games we have a bunch of teams in the mix, so we're going to have to be really good for the next month and a half," said Stevens. "What happened in February isn't going to matter much."

Stevens won't be winning any dunk-related awards in the near future, despite a video that lit up social media earlier this week. Stevens admitted that even with the assistance of a trampoline, his jam took a few tries.

"I was rebounding for my son at the other end of the floor, looked down and they had the trampoline set up for a season ticket event. I got intrigued by that. Always thought it would be interesting to see what it was like," he said. "I screwed up the first few of them but dunked the last one."

Asked when he last dunked -- minus the trampoline -- Stevens joked it happens much more often than people would expect.

"I have an adjustable basket at home, so I [dunk] all the time," he joked. "With a 10-year-old son, for most of the last nine years we've been playing on a level that I could reach kind of easily."

Stevens also touched on the TD Garden crowd and Jordan Mickey's playing time. Listen to the full interview below:
