Celtics Add Walter McCarty As Assistant
BOSTON (CBS) - Brad Stevens wanted to add a former Boston Celtic to his coaching staff, so why not add one that people publicly shout their love for?
Walter McCarty has reportedly joined Stevens' coaching staff for the 2013-14 season, once again giving Celtics fans a reason to shout "I love Waltah!" when they head to the TD Garden this season.
A fan (and Tommy Heinsohn) favorite during his eight-and-a-half seasons in Boston, the 39-year-old McCarty now joins longtime NBA assistant Ron Adams, former Stevens assistant at Butler Micah Shrewsberry, and holdovers Jay Larranaga and Jamie Young on the Celtics bench.

McCarty, who averaged 5.2 points over his 10-year NBA career, has some coaching experience under a pair of former Celtics coaches. He served as an assistant under Rick Pitino at the University of Louisville in 2007, and in the NBA under Jim O'Brien at Indiana in 2010-11.
Earlier this summer, McCarty had been named the head coach of the North Shore Tides in the ABA over the summer.
