Cell Phone Video Shows Fight Before Army Vet Is Killed In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) - Newly released cell phone video shows the violent last moments of a murdered war veteran's life. Stephen Perez survived two tours in the Middle East, but the 22-year-old from Revere did not survive a night out with friends in Boston's Theater District last April.
The National Television Show "America's Most Wanted" first aired the video taken by a witness in the parking garage where it all went down. Police say it started when a woman said something to Perez and his friends in their car as they were leaving. He said something back, and then the video shows an all-out brawl with several people jumping in and throwing punches.
The video also shows a man with a gun in his hands.
Perez' cousin says his family can hardly stand to watch it. "You can hear the girl on the video saying, 'He's got a gun,' and I just got choked up thinking the next thing I'm going to see is him getting shot," says Mark Bruno.
The video cuts out before shots were fired. But surveillance video from the garage shows the same gunman running out, clutching the gun. He is identified as Pedro Castillo, who lived in Salem before police say he fled to the Dominican Republic.
"He's going to be brought to justice whether they snatch him up out of the Dominican Republic or not," says Bruno. "Everyone has their judgement day."
