Catherine Greig Asks For Delay In Trial Start
BOSTON (AP) -- The girlfriend of alleged former Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger is asking for a two-week delay in her trial on charges of helping Bulger elude authorities.
Catherine Greig, Bulger's longtime girlfriend, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiracy to harbor and conceal a fugitive.
Greig's trial had been scheduled to begin April 23. Her lawyer, citing scheduling conflicts, filed a motion Wednesday asking that the trial date be moved to May 7.
A hearing will be held Thursday on Greig's request
Bulger, the former leader of the notorious Winter Hill Gang, fled Boston in late 1994. He remained a fugitive for more than 16 years -- wanted in connection with 19 murders -- until he and Greig were apprehended in Santa Monica, Calif., in June. He has pleaded not guilty.
