Catherine Greig Files Sentence Appeal
BOSTON (CBS/AP) – Catherine Greig's attorney filed an appeal Wednesday looking to challenge her sentence.
Greig, 61, was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for helping her boyfriend Whitey Bulger hide from authorities for 16 years.

Her attorney Kevin Reddington filed this one paragraph Claim of Appeal in U.S. District Court in Boston.
"Now comes the defendant, Catherine Greig, in the above numbered indictment and does hereby claim an appeal of the above captioned conviction to the United States District Court of Appeals."
Though the notice mentions an appeal of the conviction, Reddington said she is not planning to. The notice can be withdrawn if she decides not to appeal her sentence.

Greig pleaded guilty back in March to charges of conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.
"I am entering this Agreement freely, voluntarily, and knowingly because I am guilty of the offenses to which I am pleading guilty," she stated in her plea agreement on March 7.
Legal experts told WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson Wednesday's filing is simply part of the process at this point.
By law, an appeal must be filed within 14 days of sentencing, so the defendant can have the ability to appeal in the future if she changes her mind.
Christina DiIorio-Sterling, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz, said prosecutors would not comment.
"It is her right to appeal," she said.
After her sentencing Tuesday, Reddington told reporters Greig had no regrets.
"I'm not going to say the judge's decision was bullet-proof but it was about as close to that as you can get. He really analyzed it thoroughly and made his decision," Reddington said.
