Carver Residents Warned After Coyote Sightings
CARVER (CBS) - Police in Carver are reminding residents there that they live among wild animals and those animals don't respect property lines.
Just before nine o'clock on Friday morning, a man who lives on Pleasant Street was shoveling his driveway when he says a pack of three coyotes emerged from the woods and gave him the impression they were going to attack. The man did not want to tell his story on camera, but he explained to WBZ that he used his shovel to scare off the animals.
Tom O'Connor and his pup Indie have come face to face with their share of coyotes. These days, it seems to be happening more and more often.
WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports
A neighbor's dog here Pleasant Street was attacked and killed by a coyote early last fall. Tom's wife was chased by three coyote pups not long before that. Friday morning's incident, then, doesn't even qualify as that shocking.
"It's troubling but not so surprising given that we've been seeing them around," O'Connor says. "The brazen part scares me. It used to be dawn and dusk that's when we'd be worried… I've had a couple of instances where they came out in the daytime, [when I was] walking my dog."
"It means they're hunting for food, they're hunting in packs," explains Carver Police Sargent Raymond Orr.
And if people feel like more and more of the animals are showing up in recent years, it's because that's exactly what's happening.
"It's a problem that's going to continue because we're going to keep building houses and [the animals] are going to lose land," Orr said.

Continued development of rural areas sends coyotes and other wild animals into neighborhoods. One strategy to keep them away from your property is to make sure nothing they consider food – like your garbage or compost pile – can be easily accessed.
