Cape Camp Linked To Scott Brown Sex Abuse Allegations To Reopen
SANDWICH (CBS) - Camp Good News, which closed for the summer after it was linked to sexual abuse allegations made by Sen. Scott Brown, has announced plans to reopen.
"The time has come to unlock the gates at Camp Good News," the camp announced on its website.
In a 60 Minutes interview earlier this year, Sen. Scott Brown disclosed he was sexually abused when he was 10 years old at a Cape Cod camp, which was later revealed to be Camp Good News in Sandwich.
Following Brown's interview, several more victims emerged alleging sex abuse at the camp.
Then in April, 43-year-old camp employee Chuck Devita committed suicide after he was alleged to have abused a camper in the mid-80's.
Soon after Devita's death, the camp announced it would close for the summer. In a statement on the website, the camp says it made that decision "to examine its policies and enlist a number of new agencies to improve and maintain the program."
Camp Good News describes itself as a non-profit Christian summer camp for boys and girls aged 6-15.
