Cannons Extend Waltham's Steve Duffy Through 2013
BOSTON (CBS) - Waltham native Steve Duffy led the Boston Cannons to a 9-5 record and back to the playoffs in his first year on the sidelines, and was rewarded for his efforts on Wednesday.
The Cannons announced Wednesday they had agreed to an extension with their head coach through the 2013 season.
While the coach maintains his focus is on the 2012 season, as the Cannons will try to defend their Major League Lacrosse crown at Harvard Stadium next weekend, he is glad he'll be sticking around for the near future.

"Although we are still focused on this year and our team goals for 2012, I'm happy to look toward the future with the Boston Cannons and I'm excited for what's to come," said Duffy.
"It was an easy decision to offer Coach Duffy a contract extension," said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney. "From the day we named him head coach, he has dedicated countless hours towards bringing success to the organization. It was a seamless transition for the team, and he has achieved our first goal by bringing the Cannons to Championship Weekend for the fourth straight year. While the ultimate outcome for 2012 is still to be decided, we are excited to announce that he will be back to lead the team for the 2013 season."
In his first year as head coach, Duffy led the Cannons to the team's 10th playoff appearance. The Cannons seek to defend the MLL Championship in front of their home crowd on August 25 and 26 at Harvard Stadium.
Before being named head coach prior to the 2012 season, Duffy served as an assistant to Bill Daye for three years. Duffy is recognized in the Waltham High School Hall of Fame after coaching the varsity program for 18 years, and founded the Waltham Youth Lacrosse Program in 1994.
