Can Felger, Mazz And Beetle Score On Penalty Kicks Against A Professional Goalkeeper?
FOXBORO (CBS) -- Prior to the U.S. getting eliminated from the World Cup, soccer was, naturally, a major talking point on the Felger & Massarotti program in recent weeks. Michael Felger, Tony Massarotti and Marc Bertrand were all taken by the sport to various degrees, but they all wondered: Exactly how hard is it to score on a penalty kick?
The guys came to this question after the World Cup reached the knockout stage, where games were determined by a PK shootout if the first 120 minutes of action couldn't determine a winner. Watching on TV, it certainly looks easy. But just how easy?
To find out, the crew headed down to Gillette Stadium to try their luck against New England Revolution backup goalkeeper Larry Jackson.
On a 90-degree day where the humidity made the air thick, Felger, Mazz and Beetle braved the elements to see how they could do against a professional keeper.
Mazz did so while rocking shiny new cleats, which he used to boot the famous Brazuca ball. (Unfortunately for Mazz, there were no Jabulani balls lying around. Even worse, there wasn't even one caxirola to be found!)
Young Revs star Diego Fagundez helped out Mazz with some strategy tips, while midfielder Kelyn Rowe offered some pointers to Felger. Meanwhile, Beetle came strutting onto the field full of confidence, not needing any help from anybody.
