Campton, N.H., Police Officer Rescues Resident Trapped During House Fire
CAMPTON, N.H. (CBS) – A New Hampshire police officer rescued a trapped resident during a two-alarm fire on Friday night.
Firefighters were called to Orchard Street in Campton on Friday just before 7 p.m. after a house caught fire.
The residents heard a noise, opened the bedroom door and found heavy smoke in the hallway, the Campton-Thornton Fire Department said.
One of the residents escaped to a porch while the other helped a dog escape the flames. The person on the porch became trapped.
Police officers were the first to the scene, and one of the responding officers worked his way through the heat and smoke of the home to help the resident escape.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames. Crews remained at the house to knock down hotspots for several hours.
"Due to the quick actions of the Campton Police Officer, no one was injured, in what could have easily turned into a deadly fire," the Campton-Thornton Fire Department said.
