Contentious Election Cycle Causing Difficulties On Dating Scene
BOSTON (CBS) – When it comes to finding love, people look for different qualities in a partner. For many, dating comes with deal breakers.
Danny Delvechio works in Boston and lives in New Hampshire. He's clear about his dating deal breaker this election cycle.
"I would not date a girl that was a Hillary fan," said Delvechio, who went on to say, "that's just the way it goes" in his family.
That got us asking about a very delicate subject. Given this election cycle, is it possibly to date across party lines?
Jill Vandor is a professional matchmaker with LunchDates in the Boston area, with more than 20 years of experience helping singles find love.
"I have the greatest job, short of curing cancer," Vandor explained. "I'm changing people's lives on a daily basis."
Vandor says this election cycle is shaking things up on the dating scene.
"Without a doubt, I mean I've been doing this long enough that I've seen politics in dating for years. But this year definitely has a nice little twist to it," she said.
Vandor offers advice for politically driven clients.
"I tell people to be open minded. The more open minded somebody is, the quicker they're going to get into a relationship anyway," she said.
The matchmaker believes bringing up politics on a first day is something to avoid.
"I think a first date is really a chance to meet somebody, see if you have chemistry, if there's a spark, compatibility, get to know this individual," Vandor said.
But she admits there are exceptions to that rule if political views are a priority in finding a match.
"At the end of the day you may not agree with them, but you're not going to agree with everybody in life," Vandor advises. "So, agree to disagree. Move on and find other things that you can agree on - because there's a million other wonderful things."
